The Rolex Submariner was first introduced in 1953 and quickly became a highly coveted watch among divers and watch enthusiasts alike. This 14060 Submariner was introduced in 1990 as an update to the previous beloved model that had been around since 1962. This reference 14060 has a nice combination of traditional features with updates. The primary feature of this 14060 Submariner is that it maintained a no date dial and an aluminum bezel, which will personalize each watch as it uniquely fades over time. At 40mm, the case has the slender profile that became more stout in appearance in later years. The reference 14060 case also still has lug holes, which simplifies switching bracelets and straps. As this model maintains lug holes and the former case size, it is popular for its transitional features. The updates included a sapphire crystal and Triplock crown to increase the water resistance rating to 300m (1,000 feet). The Submariner 14060 was replaced by the 14060M around 1999, with the difference being an updated movement. The new caliber 3130 improved performance, and in 2007, Rolex submitted the movement for COSC certification. This watch also includes Super-Luminova, which doesn’t fade as does the earlier Tritium lume. The 14060M is a sweet spot for many Submariner fans. It has the smaller size, aluminum bezel and no date that is traditional for the earlier vintage Submariners, while it also has an improved movement, sapphire dial and triplock crown.
