Rolex Oyster Royal Precision Ref. 6426

Pre-owned Rolex 34mm Oyster Royal Precision, Silver Dial, Oyster Bracelet Ref. 6426

The Oyster Precision reference 6426 is powered by the manual wind, non-chronometer, caliber 1210.  A manual wind is an unusual movement for a Rolex watch, as the Rolex Oyster watches include a screw-down crown, which adds an extra step for regular winding.  Rolex moved to self-winding movements to avoid the possibility for people to forget to screw in the crown after winding, which would make the watch no longer water resistant.  While this is a thoughtful change, it soon becomes a habit to remember to screw in the crown after winding.  Many people believe this additional step is worth taking to have a manual winding vintage Rolex that is somewhat unique among Rolex watches.  At 34mm, it is on the smaller side for a modern watch, but the classic look of this vintage steel Rolex makes a strong wrist presence.  The smooth, stainless steel bezel also makes it wear larger.  With no date on the dial to distract the eye, this watch presents as a nicely balanced, classical timepiece.  Not to be overlooked is the word “Royal” on the dial.  Because Rolex stopped using it soon after this watch was produced, it makes for an unusual dial.   The silver sun-burst dial still reflects the light brilliantly, with its original tritium lume apparently intact.  There is some light age spotting on the dial, which is difficult to see without a lume.  The bracelet is in excellent condition and is a later Rolex Oyster replacement.

Rolex is recognized throughout the world not only as a brand associated with luxury, but as a watch that is both luxurious and precise.  For Rolex, this hard-won and well-deserved recognition was never in doubt.  The founder, Hans Wilsdorf named the company Rolex to be pronounceable in any language, as he anticipated the acclaim his company would receive due to relentless pursuit of precision and accuracy in a wristwatch.  Soon after its founding, Rolex produced the first wristwatch to receive the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision, which was followed rapidly by receipt of a certificate of precision from the Kew Observatory in Great Britain.  From those roots Rolex built a legacy of innovation.  The Oyster watch was the first waterproof and dustproof wristwatch in 1926, followed by the first self-winding Perpetual rotor.  Building once again on innovation, the Datejust became the first self-winding wrist chronometer to include a date in a window on the dial.  Adventurous women and men who strive to make history have chosen Rolex for their expedition, which both perpetuates the brand’s claim to precision and dependability as well as attests to its veracity.  Hans Wilsdorf may have anticipated the acclaim Rolex would someday achieve, but even he might have been impressed with its success.  The bracelet is practically new and is a replacement of a later Rolex Oyster bracelet.
