The Rolex GMT-Master was initially developed in 1954 in collaboration with Pan American Airways, with the aim of providing pilots with a watch that could display multiple time zones simultaneously. The original model featured a 24-hour bezel and a fourth hand that could be set to a second time zone. Over the years, the GMT-Master underwent various design changes and upgrades, including the addition of the iconic red and blue “Pepsi” bezel in 1959. In 1982, the GMT-Master II was introduced, which allowed for the independent adjustment of the hour hand, making it easier to track multiple time zones. Today, the Rolex GMT-Master II remains one of the most popular and sought-after luxury watches in the world.
The GMT-Master II in Oystersteel features a black dial and a red and blue ‘Pepsi’ Cerachrom bezel insert. In addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, the GMT-Master II features an arrow-tipped hand, which circles the dial once every 24 hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel. The black dial features luminous hour markers and hands, providing excellent legibility in any lighting conditions. The date window is located at the 3 o’clock position and features a magnifying lens for easy reading. Powered by the self-winding 3285 movement, this is a new generation movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. The 3285 is equipped with a Parachrom hairspring, offering greater resistance to shocks and to temperature variations. The 40mm Oyster case is not only highly durable, but also water resistant up to 100 meters, making it suitable for a variety of activities.The robust stainless steel Oyster bracelet features a folding Oysterlock clasp and also features the Easylink comfort extension link, which allows the bracelet length to be increased by approximately 5 mm.
