Vintage 40mm Rolex GMT-Master (16753)
The Rolex GMT-Master was introduced in 1955, developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) to meet the needs of international pilots. Its standout feature was a fourth 24-hour hand and a rotating bezel, allowing wearers to simultaneously read two time zones—an essential tool in the early days of intercontinental flight. The original reference 6542 had a bakelite bezel and no crown guards. In 1959, the GMT-Master was updated with the more robust reference 1675, which remained in production for over two decades. The line evolved into the GMT-Master II in the 1980s, which introduced an independently adjustable hour hand for even greater functionality. Known for its iconic two-tone bezels—like the red and blue “Pepsi” and black and red “Coke”—the GMT-Master has become one of Rolex’s most recognizable and enduring tool watches, prized by both travelers and collectors.
