$3,495

Pre-Owned Omega 40mm Railmaster, Blue Dial, Stainless Steel Bracelet, Ref. 220.10.40.20.03.001

The original Railmaster of 1957 was a practical yet elegant anti-magnetic watch designed for railway staff engaged in operating diesel-electric locomotives, which generated significant magnetic fields that made many watches inoperable, or anyone who worked in close proximy to stong magnetic fields. Today, that industrial spirit and innovation has been updated for a modern collection. In this denim-inspired model, the 40mm symmetrical case is made from stainless steel with a wave-edged design featured on the back. The vertically brushed “blue jeans” dial includes brushed stainless steel hands and recessed hour-markers which are all filled with light grey Super-LumiNova. There is also a beige central seconds hand and transferred “Railmaster” indication which delivers a classic touch. The watch has a stainless steel bracelet as well as an oriented caseback featuring a NAIAD LOCK design to keep the wording in position. The watch is driven by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8806, making it resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

Description

Omega is one of the world’s most recognizable luxury watch brands.  Although founded in 1848, the company did not become known as Omega until 1894, when the company took the name of its highly successful new watch movement.  The revolutionary movement used a single crown for both winding and time setting.  Success followed success when in 1905, due to its commitment to accuracy, Omega became the official timekeeper for Swiss sporting events.  Later in 1932, Omega became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games.  To mark Omega’s 100th year anniversary, Omega introduced the watch that would become one of the world’s most popular watches, the Seamaster.  While these are remarkable achievements, the watch that made Omega a legend among watchmakers was the Speedmaster, the only watch to survive the brutal NASA testing requirements and the only watch certified by NASA for use in Space.  It is no surprise that Omega watches are recognized today as spectacularly rugged tool watches hiding in a luxury watch.
