Rolex GMT-Master (1675)

Rolex GMT-Master (1675)

$32,995

Vintage 40mm Rolex GMT-Master (1675)

A steel case Rolex GMT Master is one of the most recognized and sought after watches ever made. Whether new or vintage, watch enthusiasts hope to include one in their collection. Introduced in 1959, the GMT reference 1675 added crown guards, increased in size to 40mm, upgraded the movement, and changed the bezel from the fragile Bakelite to aluminum. The reference 1675 has since become iconic.

The example presented here is from circa 1963 (case circa 4th quarter), with the sought-after characteristics that were included with the earlier versions. This watch includes the black glossy dial (type ‘C’), which continued until about 1966 when Rolex began using matte dials. The GMT hand is also the smaller head, typical for an early reference 1675. An interesting detail to note is that the dial features a “wide Swiss” dial, meaning the “Swiss – T < 25” at the bottom stretches across five hash marks, rather than the more common three marks. The lume has also aged to an attractive dark yellow.

Rolex made these earlier cases with crown guards that were more pointed, which collectors refer to as having “pointed crown guards” or “PCG,” such as on this example. Collectors noted that these sharp angular profile resembled a parrot beak and nicknamed them “El Cornino” (Italian for “the horn.”)

This GMT is in overall beautiful condition. The Rolex rivet bracelet is in great condition with a clasp is marked for 65. Powering the watch is the caliber 1560. Schedule an appointment to see if this is the Rolex GMT 1675 that you have been waiting for.
